According to a statement by Col Sagir Musa, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, “The ceremony took place in Sector 1 Tactical Headquarters at Umuahia, Abia State at about 7pm to 8pm on Saturday 14 October 2017, with the traditional activation of camp fire to formally signify the successful completion of the Exercise”.
General Abubakar commended all the officers, soldiers and personnel of paramilitary organizations that collaborated and synergized, worked tirelessly and commendably throughout the one month period for the Exercise.
The GOC remarked further that the achievements recorded during the Exercise in the areas of attainment of the mission specific training objectives, improvement in peace and security, curtailing the menace of violent irredentist groups in the theatre of the Exercise (South Eastern part of Nigeria) is remarkable.
On the part of the Government and good people of Abia State, the representative of the Governor of Abia State Engineer Emmanuel Nwabuko expressed appreciation of the government and people of the State for the numerous achievements of Exercise Egwu Eke 11 in terms of improvement of peace, security and stability of the State.
He remarked further that the collaborative relationship with the Nigerian Army can be traced to the time when in 2010 – 2011 kidnappers, armed robbers and other hoodlums paralyzed economic and social activities in the State, it was the army that rescued us.
“So, we are ready to always leverage on this relationship whenever the need arise” the Deputy Governor said.
In attendance were the representative of the Chief of Training and Operations Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Ndalolo; Defence Headquarters Observer Team led by Commodore Shammah, the Chief of Staff 82 Division Brigadier General LKN Udeagbala and Security Adviser to Abia State Governor, Captain (rtd) Idonsi Awa and the Commanders of 14 and 34 Brigades Brigadier Generals AK Ibrahim and IH Bature.
Others were the Commanders of 44 Engineer Brigade, 82 Division Garrison, Ordinance Services, and Supply and Transport Brigadier Generals Mark Mamman, LA Adegboye, OJ Ugwuoke and EA Anaryu respectively.
One interesting aspects of the camp fire was the disposition of troops who surged, formed a ring and gyrated round the fire, shouting/praising the Army High Command for providing them the necessary logistics to successfully conduct one of the successful military Exercise in the history of Nigerian Army Exercises.
Meanwhile, in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Buratai, the 82 Division Nigerian Army is set to host Captain – Major Practical Promotion Examination 2017, from the 16th – 20th October 2017.
The examination is intended to test the intellectual and professional ability of the candidates as well as to improve on their capacity and knowledge base in the discharge of their duties.
Eligible candidates will be tested on map reading, tactics and low intensity conflicts, communications, staff duties and French language.
The Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Nigerian Army will conduct the examination in 82 Division Area of Responsibility.
A team of observers from Army Headquarters, Directing Staff and members of the examination panel drawn from formations and units of the Nigerian Army will be involved in the conduct of the Exercise.
The Commander TRADOC, Major General Rasheed Olawuyi Yusuf will address the 130 candidates and the Directing Staff at about 2pm on Sunday 15th October 2017 at the Division’s Auditorium.
Similarly, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigeian Army, Major General AB Abubakar will make some remarks at the occasion.
A statement by Col Sagir Musa said, “Consequently, there will be movements of vehicles conveying troops in selected field locations for the examination.
“Members of the public in Enugu city and Nsude – Udi community along 9th Mile general are hereby informed not to worry on seeing sporadic movements of military vehicles and personnel during the period of the Exercise.”
