Umahi salutes Army for intervening in S/East border crises

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, has applauded the Nigerian Army for the role its played in cushioning land border disputes that would have escalated into a bloody crises in several parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Benue, Cross River States in the past four years.

The Governor who handed down the applause during his visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS ) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai at the Army Headquarters,Abuja.

Umahi, while emphasizing the need for community policing, also said Governors of the region have resolved to convene a security council meeting in their respective state to decide the number of road blocks and places they will be mounted by the Army, Police and other security agencies.

He thanked the Nigerian Army for maintaining neutrality and impartiality before, and during the last general elections in Ebonyi, and across the South East.

He however, appealed to the COAS to give approval for the establishment of Army formations and units in the southern part of the State, in order to stem the wave of insecurity ravaging communities in the area.

He further disclosed that temporary facilities are available for the take-off if approval is swiftly given for the establishment, assuring that the State Government will provide basic infrastructure for the units or formations to be established by the Army Chief.

Responding,the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, lauded the developmental strides of the Governor, which he said has transformed Ebonyi, and also engender peace and mutual cohesion in the State.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Umahi for rehabilitating dilapidated facilities and also constructing new structures at several Army Barracks in the Abakaliki.

Gen Buratai further pledged the resolve of Nigerian Army to continue to be committed, responsive and professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties in the South East and Nigeria at large .
