112 rice bags impounded as troops destroy sea robbers’ camp in S/South

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), said about 112 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice have been impounded by naval troops of Operation Calm Waters and Operation Swift Response (OSR), in the South South geo-political zone.

It added that, “These operations were conducted with the combined teams of Operation Swift Response and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) strike force. These operations are targeted at reducing the smuggling of contrabands into the country.”

DHQ, further disclosed that troops of 3 battalion arrested 7 suspected sea pirates at Snake creek in Warri South-West LGA of Delta State.

According to Maj. Gen. John Enenche, the suspects who claimed to be members of Ogje-Ijoh Coastal Watch were allegedly extorting money and other valuables from the locals within the creek.

He said items recovered from them are 2 double barrel guns, one pump action gun, 12 live cartridges and 6 handsets.

Enenche, who is the Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations (DMO), spoke on Thursday, at a press briefing on Armed Forces operations, across the country.

He equally stated that Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE discovered and destroyed a sea robbers camp containing 80,000 litres of illegally refined AGO at Otoyo in Eastern Obolo LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

Maj. Gen. Enenche, further noted that troops of 146 battalion and Forward Operating Base Bonny raided militants’ hideouts at Ijawkiri in Bonny LGA of Rivers State.

“During the raid, troops recovered a pistol loaded with 6 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 phones, one Walkie Talkie and speedboat mounted with a 75HP engine,” he said.

Gen. Enenche further spoke on some successes recorded by the troops on its operational activities in other geopolitical zone that took place from 9 June to 16 July, 2020.

Notable amongst them are, the launching of Operation Sahel Sanity which has recovered hundreds of rustled livestock,arms and kidnapped victims,as well as the neutralisation of scores of bandits in the North West region, amongst others.

Also, the execution of some people oriented projects like borehole and school by the military to enhance Civil-Military Cooperation in the North Central part of the country amongst many other successes recorded by the military.

While in the North East, Enenche noted that about 602 repentant Boko haram members that have completed Deradicalization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) programme took their oath of allegiance to the Federal government before an 11 member quasi judicial panel. This was coordinated by Operation Safe Corridor.

Troops also through massive airstrikes and other operations, destroyed terrorist logistics camps,killed their fighters amongst other successes recorded.
