The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has inaugurated a 5-day capacity building workshop for Commanding Officers (COs) at the 6 Division Python Officers’ Mess, Port Harcourt Barracks.
Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma in a statement, Tuesday, said the workshop focuses on improving operational efficiency and leadership skills within a joint environment.
The workshop, themed “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment,” aims to enhance the professional competencies of COs in addressing various security challenges.
Represented by Major General Sani Mohammed, Chief of Training, Army, the COAS stressed the need for improved operational efficiency and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support.
He highlighted the importance of the workshop, noting that it would equip them with knowledgeable skills necessary to effectively lead their respective commands.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, welcomed the COAS and participants, acknowledging the leadership’s focus on training, equipping, and motivating personnel for optimal performance.
Major General Abdussalam extended his sincere appreciation to the COAS for providing the necessary resources to host the workshop, among numerous other capacity-building initiatives.
He attributed the improved security situation in the 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR) and the remarkable successes achieved to the robust operations conducted by the Division’s troops under the COAS’s guidance. These efforts have resulted in a significant increase in oil production and a substantial decrease in security incidents in the AOR.
The General assured that the troops will continue to maintain dominance over all threat areas, ensuring the protection of lives and critical national assets, in line with their mandates within the joint operation area.
The workshop featured lectures on tactical level command, career planning, and administrative issues, culminating in souvenir presentations, group photographs, and tree planting.
