The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has emphasized the need for continuous evolution in strategies and methodologies to stay ahead of adversaries.
Speaking on Tuesday during the opening of the 4-day 6 Division Operations Planning Cadre at Python Officers Mess, Port Harcourt Barracks, he emphasised that Nigeria’s complex security challenges require increased technology integration in military operations.
The training cadre, themed “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership through Effective Operations Planning and Capacity Development,” aims to equip officers of the ranks of Lieutenant Colonels and below with essential skills.
General Abdussalam expressed optimism that the cadre will provide a platform for resource persons and participants to share insights and make meaningful contributions.
General Abdussalam highlighted Nigeria’s complex and transnational security challenges, necessitating increased technology integration in military operations.
He stressed the importance of innovation and adaptability in operational planning, enabling the military to tackle operational and administrative challenges effectively.
The Cadre also focuses on developing participants’ decision-making skills, enabling informed, timely, and decisive decisions in high-pressure situations. General Abdussalam noted that traditional warfare strategies are no longer effective as the battlefield has expanded into cyberspace and information warfare.
He urged commanders to understand and leverage technologies to enhance operational effectiveness. The operations planning cadre provides an opportunity to discuss and explore coordination between different services and agencies, crucial for effective technology harnessing. General Abdussalam emphasized that Nigerian Army operations require collaboration across multiple dimensions and partners.
The program features lectures and practical sessions, led by Brigadier General Ibekunle Daniel (rtd), with participants from formations and units within 6 Division Areas of Responsibility, the Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Air Force.
Enugu Reporters gathered that this initiative demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing operational effectiveness and addressing the country’s complex security challenges.
