The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a strong rebuttal to alarming reports circulating in the media, alleging that the Nigerian Army Military (Major ) Training Area in Kotangora, Niger State, has fallen to terrorist forces.
Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations in a statement on Wednesday, categorically denied these claims, emphasizing that the military remains firmly in control of the facility.
Contrary to sensationalized accounts, the Defence Headquarters clarified that while troops have indeed encountered terrorists in the region, no portion of the training area has been ceded to these extremist groups.
Major General Buba noted that the ongoing clearance operations have effectively restricted terrorist movements, denying them freedom of action and disrupting their nefarious activities.
The military’s prompt response aims to alleviate public concerns and dispel misinformation. Major General Buba assured citizens that the armed forces are working tirelessly to eradicate terrorist elements, collaborating closely with the Niger State Government to ensure enhanced security for residents.
The Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remains unwavering.
He said despite the complexities of combating terrorism, the military has made significant strides in neutralizing threats and restoring order in affected regions.
“Indeed, troops constantly eliminate the threat posed by terrorist crisis crossing the vast area. Our clearance operations in the area have denied the terrorist freedom of action,” he stated.
The Defence Headquarters urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reassuring citizens that the military is fully equipped and determined to safeguard Nigeria’s unity and stability. He said the operations will continue to root out terrorist strongholds.
Major General Buba reaffirmed the military’s unwavering resolve, noting that “Our troops are not relenting at ensure (in ensuring) total destruction of these terrorists wherever they may be hiding.”
