The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has welcomed the outcome of the Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in Counter Insurgency in the North East, which has exonerated the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) from allegations of forceful abortions, torture, rape, and extrajudicial killings.

Director Defence Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in a statement on Saturday said the investigative panel, led by Justice Abdu Aboki, thoroughly investigated the allegations levelled against the AFN by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Reuters.
According to the statement, the panel’s report concluded that these allegations were entirely false.

General Musa commended the panel for their diligent work since its inauguration in March 2023 by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission. He reaffirmed the AFN’s commitment to defending human rights and ensuring peace in the country.

He said, “No amount of false accusations will distract the AFN from exercising its constitutional mandate of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.”
