In a bold move to strengthen national security, Acting Chief of Army Staff (Ag COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on Sunday kicked off his maiden operational tour in Sokoto State in the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.
Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
He noted that upon arrival, General Oluyede headed straight to Forward Operations Base Tangaza and 248 Battalion in Illela, where he received critical briefings from Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division.
Addressing the troops, Oluyede praised their unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria’s North West zone.
General Oluyede emphasized his commitment to gaining firsthand knowledge of the security situation and challenges faced by troops.He urged troops to remain vigilant and avoid complacency, ensuring decisive action against terrorists.
Interacting with the Chairman Tangaza Local Government Area, Honourable Bashir Salihu, traditional heads and other heads of security agencies, General Oluyede stressed the importance of a stronger synergy to effectively protect citizens and secure the nation.
“The Nigerian Army is the people’s Army, and Nigeria belongs to all of us.
“Without local support, the Nigerian Army cannot succeed. We must collectively do all it takes to defend our country.” He stated.
Enugu Reporters noted that this operational tour marks a significant step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to address security challenges and promote national unity.
