In a significant boost to Nigeria’s air power, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and US Government officials have convened the inaugural Program Management Review (PMR) meeting to fast-track the delivery of AH-1Z attack helicopters.

According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, the meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership between Nigeria and the US in enhancing the country’s air power capabilities.

The 5-day meeting, which began on July 16, 2024, at NAF Headquarters, aimed to review progress on the aircraft’s manufacture, ensure a seamless transition, and provide technical guidance to the NAF.

Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, representing the Chief of the Air Staff, highlighted the impending delivery of the AH-1Z attack helicopters, which will significantly enhance NAF’s close air support and ground attack capabilities, aligning with its modernization efforts.

The AH-1Z helicopters will bolster NAF’s firepower and operational capabilities, particularly in counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations. Mr. Kevin Stone, the US Government AH-1Z Program Management Office team leader, emphasized the shared commitment to regional stability, peace, and security.

The successful implementation of PMR is expected to significantly impact Nigeria’s ability to tackle security challenges and ensure citizen safety. The meeting also discussed the follow-up sustainment case, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing downtime through comprehensive support services.
