The Commander of the United States Africa Command, General Michael Langley, recently visited Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, General Langley commended Nigeria’s efforts in combating all security threats within its borders and its strategic leadership in the sub-region.
According to the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the US Africa Command head also congratulated General Musa on his appointment as Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff and expressed confidence in his leadership abilities.
General Langley, accompanied to the Defence Headquarters by the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills, emphasised that “cooperation and training between the U.S. and Nigerian militaries is vital in addressing the evolving security landscape in West Africa”
Responding, General Musa expressed gratitude to General Langley for visiting Nigeria and assured him of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to cooperate with other nations in eradicating terrorism and crimes in the region.
General Musa also sought increased defence cooperation with the United States, specifically in training, intelligence sharing, and procurement of relevant platforms.
The visit underscores the importance of cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in addressing regional security challenges.
Enugu Reporters reports that the meeting demonstrates the U.S. Africa Command’s 3D approach, leveraging diplomacy, development, and defence collaboration to promote regional security, stability, and prosperity.
