The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, says the renewed zeal and vigour by the troops is geared towards ending the activities of Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists in the North east.
Gen Buratai stated this at the opening of 2nd edition of Career Planning and Management Seminar, 2020, organised by the Department of Military Secretary (Army), on Tuesday in Abuja.
The army boss said ,the renewed effort of the army in the theatre operations including Operation Lafiya Dole was yielding the expected result of getting rid of the terrorists’ activities in the North East as well as other criminalities across the country.
“I am glad to note that we are making giant stride against the ISWAP and Boko Haram in our bid to unpin the unholy union between them and the remnants of the boko Haram terrorists.
“We are certainly on course and focused”. Buratai stated.
The army general further employed the officers and men to sustain the tempo towards rooting out the remnants of the terrorists.
In the same vain, Gen Buratai while charging the commanders to ensure the operational directives were in-line with the goal, charged them to work in accordance of his strategic goal for the year 2020 – ‘to sustain professionalism of Nigerian army and responsiveness in the discharge of its constitutional role’ was fully upheld to and implemented.
Buratai also opined that production of indigenous security hardwares and platforms will be sustained and maintained if research and development as well as Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) must continually work in consonant
COAS also said the Nigerian Army has continued to pay special attention to the career development of its officers, as they lead in the battle ground against the terrorists and other criminals called for a consolidated effort of the commanders in all the NA Operations fighting the insurgency and terrorism.
According to Buratai “the seminar will enable you to better balance your process to planning noting the important moral component of fighting power and attuning troops to rededicate themselves in line with my directives that you must train to fight better concerning our counter insurgency operations particularly in the north east”.
COAS therefore urged the officers and men to continue to pledge allegiance to the constituted authority as well as uphold professional standards in their dealings.
Earlier in his remarks, the Military Secretary (Army) Maj. Gen. Gabriel Ochigbano expressed confident that the seminar would acquaint the participants with the current military resources management and planning inline with its objectives which is understanding the issues relating to career development and military human resource management.
The aim of the seminar was to sensitise officers in crucial issues affecting their career.
The theme of the two-day seminar is “Career Planning and Management in Nigerian Army as a Means of Sustaining Professionalism and Effective Responsiveness in Nigerian Army”.
