Buratai tasks participants to search for new ideas that suit security architecture

The participants of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC’s) ‘Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 2/2019 has been inaugurated with a charge to develop and establish a research based ideas to proffer profound solutions to challenges of both defence and security facing the nation.

The course was also designed to examine security through other lenses, rather than the pure kinetic and normal engagement which most of the participants are used to.

These were the words of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai who was the special Guest of Honour at the occasion.

Inaugurating the course in Abuja, the Army boss who is the Chairman Board of Trustee of the NARC’s Strategic Management and policy studies hinted that the course was conceived and developed as part of human capital development mandate of the NARC.

The Army Boss said, “as part of the continuous upgrade, the first round of course 1 consisting of policy, management, entrepreneurship and research methodology were reviewed and increased to 5 to include Psychology inline with the objectives of the course and guidelines of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“This is to place participants at per with similar courses in other parts of the world”.

Buratai further explained that,the course is however developed not just to focus on academics but other factors were also considered given the peculiar target which is the entire security architecture of the nation.

“This course is therefore rich in its content to meet contemporary academic requirements.

“However, emphasis is not only on academics as other factors were considered given the peculiar target which is the entire security architecture of the nation.

“Thus, security which in itself has expanded beyond the old state centric dimension to now cover all human endeavour is a major factor in this course”. Buratai explained.

Earlier in his address, the Director General of the NARC, Maj. Gen. Garba wahab (rtd),said the objective of the course was to improve the intellectual capability of the participants, using non kinetic way to examining the security issues as well as improving the the relationship and cooperation between the the different security agencies amongst others.

This is the second edition of the programme after the maiden edition which took place barely three months ago.

The programme which was attended by senior military and paramilitary officers, participants, resource persons, academia,amongst others was organised by Nigerian Army Resource Centre in conjunction with Nigerian Defence Academy.
